New mandala announcement

Has anyone red the announcement for the V3? I wanted to try and get some clarity before I back on kickstarter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way they were specifying the strike zones would now be 9 rim zones and one pad zone. So that would mean I would be striking the rim surface 95% of the time?

If anyone could go into detail a little better if appreciate it

Thanks guys. James

In the announcement they are saying that Mandala surfaces will now be replications of all different acoustic drums made into MDA files containing a ton of samples of those actual acoustic drums so you can make your pad into whatever drum you want. The rims could be samples from those acoustic drum rims also, or they could be used like SPD-SX triggers where you put whatever you want on each rim zone for additional sound triggering.

The pad surface is still a position sensitive trigger with up to 128 zones, and the rims are triggers which add 9 additional zones. The surface will have as many zones as the MDA file that you load onto the pad from the MDA library, so if they sample Danny Carey's snare in ten positions from center to edge your pad surface will be ten zones when you load the Danny Carey Snare MDA file, and the rims would be whatever they assigned to the rims. I'm guessing they'd all be rim hit samples from Danny's snare for that MDA file. Or maybe the rims would be nine of Danny's sound effect samples. We'll see.
