Sounds like possibly your USB cable was jammed into the drum so hard that it unhinged the port from the board and now there's a short circuit when it's connected.

Quit the VB3 and unplug your pads. Then open the MIDI Devices window of Audio MIDI Setup and highlight and delete all Mandala icons.
