Hey I am totally new to incorperating electronics into my acoustic setup. So what do I need to get working portable setup? My plan is to buy a new Macbook pro and 3 mandala pads. I have a P.A. system that i want to run the sound into. What will i need to make this work effectively?

That's all you need. The MacBook will be plenty powerful enough. You can run the audio directly from the audio output of your MacBook to your PA.

Optional things:

An external audio interface (M-Audio/Tascam/MOTU, etc.) for your computer so you'd have more professional audio outputs in the form of 1/4" or XLR to run to your PA.

A USB hub (powered) to get 3 pads into one USB port on your computer if all your ports are used up.

Excellent, without an audio interface will i experience any delay when hitting the pads?

No you won't experience any delay when hitting the pads even without an audio interface. Just set the Buffer Size as low as possible (without hearing clicks in the audio output) in the Virtual Brain's Audio Driver Window on your Mac.

If you're just getting started with electronic drums, you might find this helpful:

It's a fairly long summary of my experiences on the topic and some of the lessons I've taken away from my mistakes. Apologies to the forum for the multiple postings of this article...
