where do I start with Mandala v1 pads?

I bought three (3) Mandala v1 pads on day 1 of their pre-order and had them all set up when they finally arrived.

unfortunately, I got very tied up and never did anything more with them. I'd like to get started with them without too much more major investment. are these pads able to be used with the latest v2.9 software (without buying the Brain - money's tight...)? if not, what is the latest version of the software that can be used with my v1 pads (and without a Brain - that I can't afford)?

any pointers would be very welcome. I'm very good at following instructions - download this version from here, install it, connect these cables here, etc.

Are you referring to Mandala v1 (red rim and black standalone hardware brain)? Or are you referring to one of the USB-MIDI models (v2 purple rim or mk2.9 grey rim)?
