1 midi controller into two banks in the VB

can you take a midi controller (like a keyboard) and run it into the VB to trigger all three pad banks?since there are only 6 sounds per bank, I'm trying to spill over to the next pad bank for more separate sounds. I thought maybe using different channels would work, but it has not worked so far.
