XY Pad?

Conceptually, is there any way Max for Live (or maybe even the V3 utility) could turn the surface of a Mandala into an XY pad? Obviously, it would lack corners on the standard way we think about x and y axis. I was just thinking...I've never seen a freestanding XY Pad device that also has Aftertouch.

And, if that's possible....thinking outrageously here: could we even rotate the XY plots 45 degrees and have 0 on the X & Y axis at 9 o'clock on the mandala, so that a you actually could reach the edge?

lol, yeah I do. Unfortunately there are two things that really aggravate me - Video Editing, and hunting for interference in an audio signal. So, I've got some cool Mandala V3 vids, but they are like bottom of the barrel as far as social media quality goes.
